Instagram Engagement: Nail it with GIFs in Stories

By MegzieSeptember 29, 2020No Comments

We all know the name of the Instagram game is engagement. Did you know that Instagram stories get over 500 million views every day? That’s a lot of eyeballs.

What is Instagram Engagement?

When you post content on Instagram, you want people to interact with it. Whether that is commenting, liking, sharing, tapping to hold, responding with a DM, you get the idea.

You want your audience to do three things when it comes to stories:

  1. Be exposed to your story.
  2. Interact with your content and message.
  3. Take action.

instagram-engagement-cycleYour audience cannot interact and take action if they aren’t exposed. And to get exposure, your content has to be engaging. Its a vicious cycle, but when you have the right strategies in place, this system will work in your favour.

There are loads of approaches you can take to encourage users to engage with your content. Today I’m sharing with you three ideas you can put in place to use GIFs to boost your engagement in Instagram Stories and ultimately get you more views.

Stop, drop and look!

Firstly, due to their eye-catching nature, using GIFs in your stories will cause people to stop an look. It’s human nature; movement draws our eyes towards it. That means, if you post a photo to your Instagram Story, you can amplify it with the use of GIFs which will turn it into an eye-catching post rather than a static image.

Ideas for branded GIFs to use in this context include animated logos, squiggly lines/arrows in branded colours, animated brand slogans or benefits etc.

Use GIFs to encourage engagement.

GIFs can encourage users to take action from your post. When you place a GIF near your key message or call to action, you draw attention to it and strengthen it. In doing so, users are more likely to take action which boosts engagement. Using branded GIFs alongside Instagram Stickers such as polls, quizzes, and questions are a sure-fire way to get attention.

Instant Instagram Engagement for the Win!

If you have monthly campaigns, offers, giveaways or competitions you can (and should) use GIFs to help promote them. Branded GIFs create instant recognition, build awareness and generate attention. When used correctly, your clients will start using your GIFs in their own stories, which is a massive win for you. It means users are creating branded content for you and sharing it with their followers.

If you don’t have your own branded GIFs available in Instagram yet, it is something you should be considering. There are so many benefits and ways to use them to help your brand stand out.

I can work with you to design GIFs for your business, and walk you through the steps to getting them live in the Instagram GIF Library.
