I am so excited to share my birth story with you guys!! It kind of goes over three days, so I’m going to break the post up into those three days!

Saturday, 10th March

We attended a wedding. I wasn’t even sure if we’d be able to make the wedding, being 39 weeks pregnant and all, but we did! There were many jokes made about me dancing to bring on labour. I got all dressed up in the morning. We spent all day in the sun, as the ceremony was outdoors, and then we partied at the reception until midnight! I even drove home!

But lets talk about that ‘partying’ at the reception. I went ALL out. I literally danced the night away. I don’t know where the energy came from, but I think in my head I was like, surely, SURELY, this will bring on labour.  When “Get Low” came on, I got low. When “drop it like it’s hot” was played, you better believe that I dropped it like it’s hot. I EVEN STAYED IN MY WEDGES THE WHOLE ENTIRE NIGHT. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but it was pretty amazing.

OH – and congrats to the lovely couple; Karl & Marley. You will forever be remembered as the couple whose wedding brought my son into the world!

Sunday, 11th March

We got home at 1am, in bed at around 1.15am, NEKMINNUT – GUSSHHHHHHHHH…. this was at 3.20am. Yup, I had been sleeping for a grand total of 2 hours and 5 minutes, when I yelled out “Ummmm Drikus, I think my waters broke” it was legit Hollywood style. Which is funny, because apparently, the waters breaking like that only happen to like 5% of women.

We got up, I changed and made myself look half decent. We even had some food (because I’d heard you’re not allowed to eat once you’re in labour) I packed the last few things in my bag, and by 5am we were out the door and on our way to the hospital.

When we got to the hospital, we went straight to triage. Here they put me on the CTG monitor to monitor baby’s heart rate and my contractions. I started timing them at this point, and they were pretty regular, and not too painful either! We were told that they’ll likely admit me to a hospital ward and continue to monitor my contractions.

But then things went a bit pear shaped when baby’s heart rate started dropping. It was really scary because three doctors came in, and they all seemed really worried. There was an awesome midwife though, and she came and explained things to be in laymens terms and it didn’t seem “that” bad; but I wasn’t going to be admitted into the Ward anymore, nope, they wanted to induce me.

It was around 11am that I was moved to a birth suite, and the induction began. Now, I’d heard that being induced isn’t the greatest, because your contracts come hard and fast. Guys, I can confirm, this is accurate. They started getting more regular and more painful.

Look at me smiling there, blissfully unaware of what was about to unfold.

The contractions started, they weren’t that bad to begin with.  I think what made it more uncomfortable was that I felt like a bloody string puppet. I had a drip in, I had the Pitocin in, I had the contraction montior, my heart rate monitor, babys heart rate monitor – SO MANY WIRES!

My good friend, Julie, is a midwife. She asked ages ago if she could deliver the baby. I was super uncomfortable with this at the start. I mean, does anyone really want their friends not only seeing their vajayjays, but getting all up in them too. Not to mention, seeing you at your most vulnerable time. But I had a good, long think about it. And I thought, it would probably be nicer having someone you know and trust deliver your baby, than some random. Also, how cool in 10 years time when we can tell our child who delivered him! So I decided to say YES, LETS DO IT JULIE! She wasn’t working that day, actually she had finished a late shift the day before, but low and behold, she came in to the hospital at about 11am, right when I was being induced. What a trooper.

Lets pause to take a moment and enjoy these beautiful artsy pictures of the birthing suite that I took.

But seriously, I had my camera with me, and it was the best thing having a creative outlet to take my mind off contractions. I could snap away, and then send the pics to my phone, and edit them. I loved having something to do other than just sit around and wait for the next contractions.

A few hours in, and things started getting more painful. Can I just say, my hubs was AMAZING. He was more than willing to give me back massages, help with anything, get me water – THE WORKS. He could tell that I was holding back the tears from the pain, and he said to me “it’s okay to cry meggy moo, you’ll feel better if you do” GOD, next minute, balling my eyes out. Keep in mind, that I was functioning on literally 2 hours sleep, and had been awake for about 11 hours at this point.

But look how cute he is, smiling in the background as I’m all teary eyed. I fell more in love with him in this moment – yeah, that’s me trying to justify it…

I was getting exhausted quickly. And sore. I asked if some panadol would help, Julie kinda smiled and said, not at this point. So she said we can do morphine (which I wasn’t really a fan of, but at that point, I was exhausted and the contractions were SO PAINFUL. So I said okay. It let me rest for a bit between contractions, but I became a bit dopey. I hated this feeling so much. I was coming in and out of consciousness, exhausted, fatigued, and then being woken up with the most intense contraction. What made it worse, was that I was so thirsty, but going to the toilet was an upward hill battle. I had to unplug out of everything, walk with my drip, by the time I got to the toilet, another contraction would start and my god, in that moment, I swore I would never have another child again. (Don’t worry hubs, that changed after I met our son). I was also using the gas at this point too.

When the morphine wore off, it all got worse again, by 6pm I turned to my hubs and Julie and said, I think I need the epidural. I was 5cms at this point, and it had been 15 hours since my waters broke. There was no way I could go on for another 10 hours in the state I was in. I didn’t want the epidural, I wanted to be one of those women who could say, yeah, I did it by myself, but that just wasn’t the case for me. I’ve realized that different circumstances  mean that everyone’s labours are different, some women only labour for 2.5 hours, others for more! Some on 2 hours sleep, others on a good 8 hours sleep. Julie made me feel better about my decision when she said that I would be able to have some good, solid sleep, the pain would go away and I would have energy to push the baby out. Because at the rate I was going, if I didn’t get my energy up, I’d end up with an emergency C-Section.

The anaesthetist came in, did the procedure, and within 30 minutes, I couldn’t feel any contractions anymore. It was utter bliss!! I was able to sleep, I think I slept for a good 2 hours which was incredible. Now it was just a waiting game until I was ready to push. The clock kept ticking, at 10.30pm I was convinced he was going to arrive at 11:11pm on the 11th, I was wrong. The clock struck midnight, and we were still waiting. I was getting close though!

Monday, 12th March

I started to get a fever at around midnight, and I was freezing cold, but my temp was quite high. I don’t think it was too serious though, they just kept a close eye on me. All of a sudden I felt extremely nauseous and I ended up vomiting. Julie was so excited, she said it’s a really good sign and that the contractions are working, and pushing on my stomach. I vomited twice over the next hour.

I actually felt really good about everything at this point. Sure I was pooped, I mean it’d basically been 48 hours with, like, zero sleep. BUT I knew the end was in sight! Then at 1:20 I was told that it was time to start pushing!! This was my absolute favourite part of the whole labour. I didn’t have pain (thanks epidural) but I could feel everything. And I was so motivated and determined to meet my little guy. I also gave this 100000% because I didn’t want to have an assisted delivery.

After an hour of pushing, he was here! And OH MY GOD. The emotions were so real. I think what got me the most, was when I looked over my shoulder at my gorgeous husband. He was so overcome with joy, happiness and tears (I’m getting teary as I right this) and he kept saying “I’m just so grateful” “he’s here” “I can’t believe this”

This is the first family photo we took and I will honestly cherish it forever. The tears, the smiles, the joy, all the feels!

S’cuse the blood on my face, I couldn’t’ stop kissing his head once he was placed on my chest. It was such a surreal moment, that I had been looking forward to for the last 9 months. I dreamed of what it would feel like, the moment where you meet the little human that’s been kicking you, giving you heartburn and making you feel all sorts of emotions.

Jasper, I am so in love with you and I can’t believe that you’re actually here! Julie, thank you for being the most amazing friend and supportive midwife. I wouldn’t change a thing about my labour and I’m so lucky to have had you to walk me through everything. You made me feel so comfortable and at peace about everything that was happening. And Drikus, my love, seeing you become a father for the first time was the most wonderful privilege and honour.

I have been meaning to write this post since December you guys! But time has just flown by, life has happened, but fret not; it’s here. I have finally made the effort to sit down, go through the millions of pics we took in Bali for our Baby Moon / Family Xmas Getaway and I can now share them with you.

This is a very PICTURE HEAVY post, and for that, I am sorry not sorry.

[1] The House

I wanted to start off by sharing some snaps of the amazing mansion we stayed at. We rented a house on a tiny island called Nusa Cenincgan. It was us, plus all of hubby’s immediate family so there were 8 of us in total. I totally forgot to take snaps of the inside though, so check those out here if you’re interested.

The whole idea behind renting this gorgeous place, was so that we didn’t have to leave it (at least not that often) Usually when we go to Bali, we rent scooters, and we do day trips etc etc; but because I was pregnant, that kinda limited me in what I could do. Also because we were with the whole family, it was nice to have a place where we could all chill. We brought loads of board games, I brought along two giant inflatables for the pool, and we had plenty of nice cold beverages to keep hydrated in the hot humid weather

[2] A day in the life of me

I literally lived my best life, slept in, then chilled in bed on my phone, or reading a book (the aircon was great!). My favourite thing about this small island is that (almost) all the restaurants have WhatsApp, which means you can text them an order, and they’ll deliver it to you – FOR FREE. So good!! I’d order breakfast from my favourite cafe – Next Level. And it’d usually arrive within the hour (Bali time….). I basically ate pancakes and a smoothie bowl for breakfast every day – it was SO delicious.

As I said earlier, I brought along two giant inflatables from Kmart. Me and my main girl Adi (sis-in-law) would just chill in the pool until our hearts were content! It was super relaxing and so nice to be in the water with the bump. It took so much pressure off my back (ha, I thought I was big back then.. I feel 10 times bigger as I type this!)

how cute are my swimsuits from Boohoo.com? I was obsessed hahaha!

Next up was lunch, I’d Whatsapp my order (and anyone else who wanted food) to our restaurant of choice, and we’d wait for it to be delivered. While I waited, I’d usually have a shower to cool off and get the pool water off me, and then chill on the couch or chat to the fam bam. Sometimes, I’d just stay in the pool. Mie Goreng was/is my fave food to order in Bali! It’s seriously yum.

The rest of the day was spent either in the pool, playing board games, reading books, scrolling through Instagram, or chilling with a lime sparking water in all of the various nooks around the house. Or doing impromptu photoshoots with Adi hahahah! She also braided my hair hella nice! Oh we also would get the occasional massage (they come to the house) I know right?! Tough life for some of us.

[3] All of the food

We’d try to venture out of the house every now and then to go and explore the island and all of the cute restaurants it has to offer. These were some of of my favourite:

1. NEXT LEVEL CAFE

2.  DT NUSA CENINGAN

3. SEABREEZE CENINGAN

4. THE SAND

[4] Some of the sights

I really didn’t go out a lot, but the one day we got a little car to drive us around the island. It was great to see the sights, but so crappy in the sense that it literally rained down on us THE ENTIRE TIME. Not fun when you’re sitting uncomfortably in the back of a van, on a bench like seat, trying to avoid being whacked by the trees as you drive past them. Anyway… I was glad to get back to our lovely home after this day.

  • Abyss Zipline (we just looked) but look at that blue water that you zipline over!
  • Blue Lagoon
  • Ceningan Cliff Restaurant
  • Yellow Bridge
  • Song Tepo Beach

All in all, we had an awesome time. It was so nice to get away with the whole family, but also spend some quality time in paradise with my darling husband before our baby arrives! I’m glad we went when we did, because if we’d left it any later I’d have been way way way more uncomfortable and tired!

People have always told me that I’m so lucky to have nice skin. I think this is because I never really got pimples or acne growing up. I’ve always thought the opposite, I’ve kinda hated my skin. I’ve got loads of moles and freckles, which I’m SO conscious about.  I’d be at the beach, and comparing my back to other girls’ with perfect blemish free skin. I’ve had to have heaps of these moles removed, and I scar even worse! Gross red scars, often raised, which only added to my insecurities.

I always knew that I’d be one to get stretch marks – it’s in my genetics. I kind of dreaded it. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I started lathering up the bio oil. Every. Single. Day. I thought that I’d escaped it, but over Christmas the first little stretchy appeared. “I can control this” I thought – HA! over the coming weeks, my little baby kept growing, my tummy got bigger, and so did the stretch marks.

Then one day, 19 words changed my whole perspective on this.

“for every woman that wishes she didn’t have stretch marks, there is a woman who desperately wishes she did”

I nearly cried (pregnancy hormones….) It made me realize, that being pregnant is such a privilege. There are so many women out there, some outspoken, some quietly struggling, that would give anything to have a growing belly and all the stretch marks that come with it. I am lucky.

So yes, I’ve embraced them. That being said, I still use products that keep my belly well moisterised, because I’d like to think that I’m somewhat managing them, but also pregnancy is ITCHY AS YO! And I’ve found the more moisterised my belly is, the less I scratch, so that is enough for me!!

[1] Bio-Oil

I think this is everyones go-to first product when they find out they’re pregnant. It’s well advertised as a product that can help reduce the appearance of all sorts of things from scars to uneven skin tone to, yep, you guessed it, stretch marks. I was oiling my belly up twice a day from day 1. For the most part I’d say it worked because my belly has not been super super dry. The only con to this product is that my poor bed sheets need to be washed way more often now, because that oil gets everywhere!

Full disclosure: this is probably my third bottle of bio oil, so I’d say I’ve gone through one a trimester. I’ll probably keep using it once the baby arrives as well. At least, until all the ones I stockpiled run out.

[2] Palmer’s Tummy Butter

THIS STUFF IS THE BEES KNEES! I only discovered it halfway through my pregnancy. At first I found it frustrating, because the butter is so flipping dense that I struggled to get it out of the jar. Once you get the first bit out though, it’s much easier. It is soooooooo good. A little goes a long way; I’ve only just finished the jar – as you can see! Definitely need to stock up on more. I put this on in the mornings and it keeps my bump hydrated ALL DAY LONG. I wish I knew about this stuff sooner. I probably would’ve used this way more than the Bio Oil if I’m being totally honest.

[3] Pure Fiji Coconut Scrub

Okay, I actually loved this stuff long before I was expecting a bubs. The reason I love it so much is that a) it smells UH-MA-ZING and b) it not only exfoliates your skin, but it leaves it feeling super moisturised as well! Every time I use this, I feel like I’ve jetted off to a tropical island and have just spent the morning at a day spa – not even kidding. I like to use this scrub every now and then as a way to pamper myself. It’s really easy you just lather it on in the shower, and then wash it off and voila, exfoliated and moisturised skin. I like to finish this routine off with the Vaseline Coconut Moisturiser as well just to make sure my belly (and body) is left feeling super moisturised, and the belly is definitely not itchy either.

[4] Lush’s Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

This was given to me as a gift, and honestly, it’s the best stuff ever! If any of your friends ever tell you their pregnant, a great gift idea is a Lush care package (check out their awesome post on what to use when you’re pregnant here, for some inspo)

Anyway, I just keep this stuff near the shower, and use it after my body wash. I put it everywhere!! But especially on my belly. You just leave it on for a few mins (almost like hair conditioner) and then wash it off. It is incredible how soft and smooth your skin feels afterwards. I don’t feel the need to use bio oil or other moisturiser after I use this stuff because it’s so rich. and it smells INCREDIBLE. It is also full of Cocoa Butter which is great for pregnancy.  Lush for the win!!

[5] Lush Bath Bombs

I swear this isn’t sponsored by Lush, but there are two bath bombs that are great for moisterising and hydrating the skin which I have loved. I saved these for the third trimester, because it’s safer to have warm baths at this stage in pregnancy as opposed to sooner.

1. Cheer up Buttercup

This is a zesty lemon-lime bath bomb (pictured top left), with a lop of cocoa butter in the middle. I bought it for the scent, but kept using it for the cocoa butter! If you read anything online about stretch marks it’s that cocoa butter is supposedly one of the best things for you to use!!

2. Butterball

This bath bomb (pictured top right) is a cocoa butter lovers dream. It smells like vanilla and it’s creates a super creamy, buttery froth when used. I have loved soaking in the sub and getting out with soft, hydrated skin. I even lay back and rub the bath water over my belly to keep it extra hydrated!

and that’s that! My top 5 (technically 6 if you count both bath bombs) favourite products to use to keep my belly hydrated during pregnancy.

Will these stop stretch marks? Maybe, if you’re lucky and have good skin; but if you’re like me and your destined to have tiger stripes, then all these will do is keep your belly hydrated, less itchy and leave you feel pampered and relaxed – because what tired pregnant mama doesn’t want to feel a little special every now and then!

Enjoy!!

A few people have asked me where I got the baby games that we played at my Baby Shower (check out the full post from that special day here) . Truth be told, I looked on Pinterest, but couldn’t find anything I liked, so I decided to design my own.

baby-names

I figured, I might as well share the love if anyone would like to download them you can do so, freely, below.  I’ll give you two options:

[1] To make things even easier, you can download the whole pack here.

[2] If you only want one, or some, of the games, you can download them individually below.

Who knows mummy best

This is a quiz like game, where guests have to answer a couple of questions about the mum-to-be and whoever gets the most answers correct wins.

Download here

Baby Predictions

This is less of a “game” and more so a keepsake that will be fun to look back on once baby arrives. Simply ask guests to fill out their predictions and make sure they pop their name at the bottom so once bubs arrives you can look back at all the predictions and see who was closest!

Download here

A to Z of Baby Names

This was probably my favourite game; and it’s super simple. As soon as everyone has their paper, start the clock. Guests have to write down, as quickly as possible, one baby name starting with each letter of the alphabet. eg for boys: Andrew, Brandon, Cameron, Daniel… you get the point. I’ve created one for Boys and Girls!

Download here

Download here

The Price is Right

This game requires a little bit of pre-work before you can play it. Just google the prices of each of the items below, and then tally up the cost. Then, on the day when you play, ask guests to guess how much they think each item is worth, and then add up all their answers to get the total. Whoever’s guess is closest to the overall price that you had from the pre-work, wins!

Download here

Bonus: Thank You Label

I created a Coconut Vanilla Sugar Scrub as a party favour for my guests. I thought I’d add the label as a printable here, in case you wanted to do the same. you just need to buy some white round labels from any craft/stationary store, download the template and insert the image in.

Download here

Below is a snap of how my labels turned out – I was super happy with these!!

And that’s it! If you do print off any of these games and play them, tag me on instagram (@megscronje) I’d LOVE to see how you used them! And congratulations on this very exciting time of your life!!

I should actually say bags (plural) haha! Hubs had been nagging me since about 30 weeks to pack my hospital bag. I thought I’d wait until I went on maternity leave (5 weeks out) to start instead. But then when I sat down to make a list of what to pack, I felt extremely overwhelmed and had NO FLIPPING IDEA. My beautiful friend, and also mummy blogger, Britt (All Wifed Up) wrote an AWESOME post which I used as the foundation for packing my bag. You can read her post here.

FOR MUM

[1] Toiletries – The way I’m thinking about it, is as though I was going on holiday (except, maybe not as luxurious or comfortable – ha!) I packed:

  • toothpaste + toothbrush
  • shampoo + conditioner
  • body wash
  • deodorant
  • moisturiser (I’ve heard hospitals can be pretty dry)
  • paw paw cream (like lip balm)
  • hair brush
  • hair dryer
  • hair ties
  • dry shampoo
  • makeup + makeup wipes
  • maternity pads
  • nursing pads (if breastfeeding)
  • nipple cream (if breastfeeding)

[2] Shower Towel + Flip Flops  – a lot of people have mentioned to me that the shower towels at the hospital are teeeny tiny and also scratchy. So I’ve packed my nice big fluffy towel with me. I’m thinking anything to make you feel more at home and comfortable is a good idea! I’ve also packed Flip Flops because I’m a bit of a germaphobe, and if the floor looks gross, then I’d like to have the flip flop option

[3] Clothes – This is a hard one, because I have no idea how long I’m going to be in hospital. I decided to keep it light, because hubs can always bring me clean clothes from home if I need that option

  • comfy leggings
  • 2 x basic tees
  • going home outfit
  • socks (in case the room is cold)
  • pajamas (breastfeeding friendly if you like)
  • breastfeeding singlets
  • slippers
  • large, comfy granny undies – I’ve heard you’re not going to want to keep your undies in the weeks that follow birth. So I bought a pack of big, comfy ones that I didn’t mind throwing away afterwards
  • shoes (I just packed some easy slip on flats)

FOR BABY

This is probably what I struggled with the most. You see, I was a TINY baby, but hubs was a HUGE baby. So my logic and thinking is that we’d have a bubs somewhere in the middle right? Well at our last growth scan, baby was measuring on the large side. So that really threw me off. I spent ages researching, and decided to pack the below.

[1] Muslin Wraps + Blankets – I just packed three wraps and one blanket. My logic here, is that if we need more, dear old hubs will be sent home to grab them.

[2] Clothes – I wasn’t sure what sizes of clothes to bring, and how many of each, and what types. It’s so overwhelming. I did loads of research and I ended up packing the below. I also put all the different sizes / styles in different ziplock bags. That way we don’t have scratch and dig through a suitcase to find what we’re looking for.

NEWBORN (SIZE 0000)

  • 3 x  singlets
  • 1 x  leggings
  • 1 x  short sleeved onesie
  • 2 x  sleep onesie

BABY (SIZE 000)

  • 3 x  long sleeved onesies
  • 1 x short sleeved onesie
  • 1 x leggings
  • 2 x singlets

OTHER

  • 2 x beanies
  • 2 x mittens
  • 3 x socks
  • 2 x bibs

[3] Frozen Colostrum – Sorry if this is TMI, but my good friend, who is a midwife, encouraged me to start expressing some colostrum a few weeks before due date. The reason for this, is it can really help with your flow if you intend on breastfeeding. I expressed a little bit into a small cup, and then used a syringe to suck it up, and store it in the freezer. The reason I’m planning on bringing it to the hospital, is in the event that baby may need extra care, rather than him being feed the formula at the hospital, I’ll have some of my own colostrum that the nurses can give him. NOTE: Please consult with your GP or midwife if you intend on doing this. I checked with both of mine before I started and they both gave me the green-light.

[4] Nappies – Some hospitals provide these for you, I don’t believe that ours do. Therefore, I’ve packed about 20 newborn nappies to bring with me. I just popped them in a giant IKEA ziplock bag. We live super close to the hospital, so again, if we need more than this, trusty old hubs can do a nappy run!

[5] Baby Wipes – I just threw a pack of wipes in my bag as well.

[6] Travel sized toiletries – I’m pretty sure our hospital supplies things like baby wash, oil and shampoo; however, if you want to use a specific brand I’d suggest packing these and bringing it along to use come bath time.

[7] Dummy – If you’re planning on using one; make sure you wash and sterilise it beforehand

[8] Bottle Feeding Supplies – at my hospital, if you are planning on breastfeeding, you do not need to bring any formula/bottles with you. However if you are planning on going down the formula route, you will need to bring your own. That being said; I have washed and sterilised my own bottle, just in case.

OTHER

[1] Plastic bag – I packed a few plastic bags so I could pop all the dirty laundry in them (makes things easier for when we get home)

[2] Eye Mask – I’m pretty sensitive to light, I always travel with an eye mask and it helps me sleep if there is any light (from open doors or night lamps) since we’re not private, I’ll likely be sharing a room with someone else.

[3] Electronics – I haven’t packed these just yet, but I’ve got my electronics list ready to go in the event of labour. I’ll be packing things like:

  • iPhone
  • iPhone wall charger
  • Portable charger (in case the plug is a million miles away from the bed)
  • iPad + headphones (just incase…)
  • Bluetooth speakers – I’ve heard that you can bring your own speakers to the Birth Suite to play music that you’d like to when you’re giving birth. We’ve got a little playlist of songs that we both love, so I’m planning on using my Bose speaker once we’re in the birthing suite.
  • Camera + charger – duh!

[4] Baby Book + Milestone Cards – I’ve got a baby book and I’m planning on jotting down some things if there is any down time. I’d really like to write down and capture exactly how I’m feeling in those first few days, because it’s going to be such a life changing time. I’ve obviously also packed a few pens so that I can fill out these things.

[5] Birth Plan – I have written down a birth plan, so I’ll definitely be bringing that with me

[6] Wallet + Paperwork –  I’m pretty sure you’ll need things like your ID, health care card and any hospital paperwork / insurance paperwork (if you’re private). I also think some cash and/or credit card for things like the vending machine (or sending hubby out to get takeaway food instead of hospital food) will also come in handy!

[7] Aromatherapy Diffuser / Candle – I’ve been told that you can bring something like this with you for when you are in labour. I don’t have a diffuser, but I have something similar which I’m planning on bringing with me. I really like the idea of the room smelling like coconut & lime instead of a hospital room. Research also says that the more relaxed and comfortable you are, the better! If I had an Aromatherapy Diffuser I’d definitely bring that, because I’ve read of all the amazing goodness that is essential oils and the benefits that they have. But for now I’ll settle with fragrance haha!

[8] Snacks – I’ve heard from several people that my hospital won’t allow you to eat once you are in labour, and that afterwards you are absolutely famished!! I have probably gone way overboard with the snacks, but I tried to pack a good combination of sweet/salty because I don’t know what I’ll be feeling like. I’ve also packed some mints and gum, for both myself, and anyone who visits who may like some

[9] Esky – My experience with pregnancy is that I have been HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT!! I am planning on bringing a small esky with a few goodies such as:

  • ICED cold water to drink during labour
  • ice cubs to munch on during in labour
  • powerade – gotta keep those electrolytes up (if the midwife will let me)
  • a few cold face towels (I’ve been keeping them in the freezer so they’ll be extra cool) just to wipe down my face, and body during labour
  • Pepsi Max – for the hubby
  • Frozen Colostrum – mentioned above, we’ll be bringing it in the esky to keep it frozen.

I think that is about as prepared as I can be. I’ll happily edit this post after the baby arrives to add anything that we didn’t bring and found that it was needed! It’s so overwhelming trying to pack for an experience that you’ve never gone through in your life. And I think everyones needs will be different. Hope this helps you if you’re trying to pack your bag!

I’m sure by now you know that I LOVE photography, I actually shoot weddings part time. So I’m someone who has all the professional camera gear, and am capable of taking high quality photos. BUT, it’s hard to get photos of yourself, setting up a tripod and a clicker or timer, and getting good angles and poses is extremely hard when you’re not behind the lens. I wrestled with what I was going to do about a maternity shoot. I didn’t really want to fork out hundreds of dollars to get some taken, especially because I know I have all the gear and, I kind of like my own editing style. LUCKY FOR ME, my beautiful sister-in-law is also SUPER creative, and offered to use our cameras to take some snaps for us, and then I could go about my merry way editing them as I please. I was soooo happy with this, because a) we’re super comfortable around her, so I knew the poses would look super natural and b) because I’m one of those creatives who can be super picky, that we could collaborate and get the right shots exactly how I was imagining them.

And so, here is a little snap at some of my absolute FAVES from our session. We went to two different locations, I wanted one set of maternity pics with a sort of urban feel to them, and the other set with a beautiful, golden hour, romantic feel to them. I’m so so so happy with ALL OF THEM. Honestly, it was so hard to narrow it down to just these few.

The Urban Jungle

The Romantic Forrest

After we shot the urban section, we drove to this gorgeous forrest, where I awkwardly changed into this blue dress. Getting changed in public is hard enough without throwing a pregnancy into the mix! hahah! It was good fun, another reason, I’m SO glad our photographer was my sis-in-law otherwise it would have been suuuuuuper awkward!

ahhh!! I honestly could not be happier!! I’m so glad we made the effort to get these taken, because I’ve truly, truly enjoyed being pregnant, I’ve loved growing this little human and I’m so glad that I’ll forever have these photos to remember this special time in our lives!
